Why do we need protein?
Proteins are the building blocks of all our muscles. So if you are looking to increase your muscular weight by working out, then your body would need extra protein to build more muscle as well as to compensate for the lack of fats and carbs in your diet. An average adult needs to consume about 3.7 times their body weight (in pounds) every day for a healthy diet. Athletes and body builders need more than this just to maintain their body weight.
If you have protein rich diet that consists mainly of lean meat, you may be getting more than enough of your protein requirement. But if maintaining such a diet is an issue then you may need to get on protein powder to meet your daily protein levels.
What happens when you do not have enough protein?
If your body is not being provided enough protein through your diet for this then it will start breaking down muscle protein to compensate for it, ultimately leading to muscle loss and atrophy.
