Spectacles vs. Contact Lenses – A Comparison

There are many reasons why more and more people are switching from spectacles to contact lens. Contact lenses do not become foggy with temperature changes unlike glasses.

Contact lenses have zero weight and are usually very comfortable. You don’t have to worry about your lenses slipping down your nose every now and then and putting ugly marks on the bridge of your nose. Spectacles on the other hand need to be adjusted on your nose frequently and they also require periodic tightening.

It doesn’t matter how lightweight your glasses are, they still create pressure and are a weighty burden on your ears, nose and face. Many light skinned people also get under eye dark patches after wearing spectacles.

Spectacles offer a poor side or peripheral vision, reflect light on the back of the lenses and make you aware of the edge of the lens and the frame constantly. You are not bothered by these problems if you wear contact lens.

Disadvantages of Contact Lenses

Contact lenses, along with the expenses of disinfecting and cleaning solutions, can be too pricey in the long run and many people cannot afford this extra expense. A few people get scrapes, scratches and corneal infections from contact lenses and find them extremely uncomfortable. Because of their small size and see through fish scale nature, it is easy to lose or damage your contact lens.

Besides you have to clean and disinfect them religiously. Inserting and removing the lenses is inconvenient and you always need to keep at least two pairs of spectacles handy in case of emergencies.
